Middle School Activities

Little Brother/Sister Activities
The 8th grade classes work with Mrs. Putnam’s and Ms. Hancock’s 1st grade classes each year. Each 8th grader will be assigned a 1st grader for the year. We will have different activities throughout the year where we will get together and do special things or take trips with their first grade friends. Activities include pumpkin painting, attending Mass, trick-or-treating for charity, and many other activities.

Community Service
The 8th grade is a year of service at SPPS. Once a month, eighth graders participate in an activity to provide a service to the community. SPPS 8th graders have provided services in past years such as outdoor cleaning, adopting a family for a holiday, and preparing mailings for the Red Cross.

May Crowning & Graduation
May is a month of celebration for the 8th graders. In the first part of the month is May Crowning which involves the entire student population, and spotlights the eighth graders before they leave SPPS. It is one of the most beautiful ceremonies of the year in honor of the Blessed Mother. At the end of the month is the 8th grade graduation held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

8th Grade Awards
Each year there is an awards ceremony to recognize students for their academic achievements and participation in various activities throughout the year.

Religious Retreat
8th graders get the opportunity to take a trip of the religious Bardstown area to see early churches, monasteries, and convents.

Chicago Trip
In the spring, 8th graders leave on the much anticipated 4-day trip to Chicago to experience good food, culture and time with their classmates.

NASA Space Camp
In October, 7th graders take a trip to Huntsville, Alabama to experience The Pathfinder program. This program includes a shuttle mission, space history and astronaut training. For more information on the program, visit www.spacecamp.com.
